Booking the tour with Slas Travel was easy, and the company provided clear instructions on pick-up times and what to bring. The staff was professional and responsive, ensuring we were well-prepared for the adventure.
We were picked up early in the morning (around 4 AM) from our hotel in Cusco and driven for about 3 hours to the starting point. Along the way, we stopped for a delicious breakfast in a small Andean village. The food was simple but hearty, and the warm coca tea helped us adjust to the altitude.
ATV Experience
Once we arrived at the ATV base, our guides gave us a short but thorough safety briefing and a chance to practice on the ATVs. They made sure everyone was comfortable before we hit the trail.
The ride itself was absolutely incredible! Instead of trekking for hours at high altitude, we rode through stunning landscapes, passing valleys, rivers, and snow-capped mountains. The fresh air, open roads, and breathtaking scenery made this such a memorable experience. The ATVs were in great condition and easy to handle, even for beginners.
Rainbow Mountain
After about an hour of riding, we parked the ATVs and had a short 20-30 minute hike to the famous Rainbow Mountain. The altitude is high (over 5,000 meters), so taking it slow and drinking plenty of water is key. Luckily, since we saved so much energy by riding ATVs, we had more time to enjoy the unreal colors and panoramic views without feeling exhausted.
We were lucky to arrive before the crowds, and our guide helped us take amazing pictures. They also explained the fascinating geology behind the mountain’s colors.
