Overview

Saijo is one of the three major sake brewing area in Japan. There are seven sake breweries within walking distance of Saijo Station. You can efficiently tour all the breweries in only two hours while listening to the English speaking guide's explanation about the history and sake of each brewery. You can also sample the sake recommended by each brewery. You can taste various types of sake, such as Daiginjo, Junmai, and Cloudy sake, so you are sure to find your favorite sake. Some of the breweries do not usually offer sake tasting on weekdays, so it is very valuable to be able to sample sake from all the breweries. If there is space available on the day of the tour, you can register up to 2 hours before the tour starts. Please come and find your favorite sake!

    Kamotsuru is the pioneer in Ginjo sake brewing. Watching a 10 minute video introducing Sake making and Tasting Daiginjo-Type, " Daiginjo Gold Kamotsuru" @ Kamotsuru Visitor room.

  • Fukubijin Sake Breweries

    Fukubijin was called the Saijo Brewing School and has produced many outstanding mater brewers. Let's taste "Fukubijin Junmai-Shu." You can try warm Sake during winter season!

  • Kamoizumi Sake Brewery

    Kamoizumi was one of the first breweries in Japan to begin brewing junmai-shu (pure rice sake) using only rice and koji mold as ingredients. Taste their signature product, "Junmai Ginjoshu 朱泉 Honjikomi."

  • Saijo Sakaguradori Tourist Information Center

    Distributes brouchures, offers information about Sakagura-dori Street, and is stocked with souvenirs. Take a restroom break here.

  • Kirei Sake Brewery

    Kirei Shuzo is characterized by its dry taste compared to other Saijo sake. You will taste "Yoshidaya’s Sake," a limited sake blended by the brewery with sake that is ready to drink in that month.

    Saijotsuru brews sake using traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation by Hiroshima sake brewers. You can taste "Junmai Daiginjo Genshu Shinzui" which has been repeatedly awarded by Monde Selection.

  • Hakubotan Brewery

    Hakubotan is one of the oldest sake breweries in Hiroshima Prefecture. It was funded in 1675. You will have the opportunity to taste "Hyoka," which is unfiltered sake that has been fresh frozen in a special way, and plum wine soaked in Daiginjo-shu.

  • Sanyotsuru Brewery Inc.

    Sanyotsuru is the only sake brewery located west of Saijo Station. You can try to taste cloudy sake and sake ware is also available for sale.

Visiting the world's Sake Capital!

It was my first time in Saijo and I can't wait to return! The guided tour is truely an amazing look into the history and culture of Sake, I never knew how much went into the process & the tasting experience was my favourite part, my guide was really friendly and I definitely recommend this trip to others!

Lovely saketasting (2h) in Saijo

I had a great couple of hours in Saijo, tasting a big variety of sake (both Junmai (Daiginjo and Ginjo), raw sake, cloudy sake etc) with different polishing rate of the rice. In total 9 different varieties, all with a different flavour. Dry, sweet, fruity, smokey, light or with a more full body. For me, it was the perfect amount, so I could still distinguish the different varieties from eachother. The guide was really entusiastic, and I learnt a lot. Good value for money.

A passion for Saijo and brewery tour

We were a group of ten or so. We had a very enthusiastic tour guide who was from Spain and she did a fantastic job!! They need to give her a raise!!! She really knew her stuff but she did a nice job of making it exciting in a very authentic way. We visited six tasting rooms of different breweries and sampled a nice variety of sake. As the tour progressed you could tell she really cared about what she was doing but also the people in the group. If you are interested in learning a bit about Saijo and the sake that is produced there these are your peeps!!! I am somewhat experienced with sake and I know it is brewed with pride and passion. It was refreshing to see that same passion shared with us on this tour!!
