Overview

It is a walk through 3 different salt pans, an enchanted place to discover how "wholemeal" salt is produced and collected. A visit to the salt museum, tasting of salt crystal and flavored salt blossom and a walk through the salt tanks will make this tour an unforgettable experience between nature, history and tradition.

Meeting points

    Place of departure via Admiral Staiti n°101 (fire station), at the port.

  • Mulino Maria Stella (Pass By)

    After 10 minutes we will reach the first salt pan of our tour, the "Maria Stella", where we will admire the first mill built here in Trapani, dating back to the end of the fifteenth century.

  • Salina Calcara

    "Salina Chiusicella", description of the 4 orders of salt tanks (transformation of sea water into salt...). Flamingos, herons, egrets, horsemen of Italy etc. sighting

  • Saline Culcasi

    The last salt pan (Culcasi) will allow us to enter an ancient mill of over 600 years, now a museum, to find out how it was collected, how it worked, the various tools, the hierarchies, what role salt played in this place and the differences between past and present. We will taste the different types of salt crystals and its most precious part the salt flower, natural and flavored with orange, lemon, rosemary and oregano etc... and finally we will carry out "the path of the saltman" a suggestive walk inside the salt tanks.

This was truly fantastic. Alessandro was so friendly and explained the process well. The photos are amazing. We visited a 600 year old windmill and seeing how hard the conditions were. We learnt a lot about salt! Highlight was seeing the flamingos!

Great trip with nice scenery and information. Alessio knows his stuff and his takes about the processing of salt were fascinating. We had beautiful sunset view of the pans and I recommend taking the latest slot of the day (3 pm). There are cheaper options but this is a long one 2.5 hours and well worth the money
