We had already booked a full day tour and wanted a shorter option. Nuns Valley fitted the bill and didn't disappoint. Again picked up in Canico, by Luis a very friendly guide/driver. we had to pick up others, in Funchal, but were soon on our way into the mountains. There are only 3 stops on the tour, but we picked a good day for weather and had time to stop and admire the amazing views and take picutres. Luis gave us enough local information and negotiated the mountain roads easily, including a bonus stop in a lay by for the view. The actual town in Nuns Valley is not that impressive, but we did try the Poncha and Chestnut cake. We got back to our hotel for lunch. The trip was approx 4.5 hours, due to us being 20 min from Funchal. But many other operators don't pick up outside the Capital. So another great service. I definitely don't want to drive on their roads.

This tour was amazing. We were picked up at our hotel and the tour guide was lovely. She explained about a lot of things on the way up and back down the mountain. At the second stop with the cafe she sat with my elderly father on the cafe balcony while I walked up to the view point. She told us interesting facts about banana trees. The views we saw were amazing and we enjoyed visiting the Valley of the Nuns village chapel. This is a great tour to do and just right for someone elderly.

The unbelievable sights all along the way. The tour guide Suzana was the best tour guide I have ever seen, she was very knowledgeable, pleasant and helpful.

Nuns Valley half day tour's guide Manuel was straight in with information on Maderia after picking up the last clients. Perfect 3.hours / 3 short stops. Amazing scenery, beautiful beautiful Nuns valley despite the weather.
