Overview

Samurai and Kyoto have always been associated throughout history. From the early Heian period to the collapse of the Tokugawa shogunate the samurai and ninja always roamed the streets of Kyoto. Now they are back! The samurai and ninja museum brings back the history and helps you to have a glimpse of these heroes’ glorious lives. What is more, you can have a hands on experience including wearing a real samurai armor, taking a katana lesson, doing a shuriken (ninja star) throw and using a ninja fukiya all in one place, all included in the tour.

Great exhibit and tour!

The museum is really informative on its own, but the guided tour really helps to get more context. It was so refreshing to have the history of women and lower classes included in the relevant places.

This was a very immersive and informative experience. From getting fun yet interactive information to dressing up like a samurai, it is a solid 5/5 experience. Our tour guide Aya San was funny and engaging. Great experience especially if you’re totally unprepared for it as we were.

The experience was both informative and enjoyable, making it a worthwhile opportunity for anyone seeking an immersive tour with an excellent guide. It would appeal to both children and adults, and I gained valuable insights into the shogunate that enhanced my visit to sites like the Imperial Palace afterward. I highly recommend this experience, as it offers great value for money.

Samurai fun

Such a cool experience with the history of the samurai first, then a very fun turn using the throwing stars (shiruken). Was much more difficult than I thought. Highly recommend this experience.
