Overview

-Hike through a secret path into Fushimi Inari Shrine. Even though there is Fushi-inari station, we start the tour from Tofukuji station because we enter Fushi-inari shrine from back side of main entrance. -Journey into a secret bamboo forest We will discover a natural bamboo forest, and a small Inari shrine hidden from tourists. Fushimi Inari's main entrance is hard to navigate due to a lot of people, but by walking through the mountains, we will see Fushimi Inari from a new perspective, away from the crowd. -Return to civilization after a breathtaking view atop the mountains of Fushimi Inari From here on, we will explore tourist areas on the way to the top of the mountain. Tour routes may vary, but it will end somewhere around the main shrine.   • This hike is not super difficult, approximately 7km in total. But it is not a simple walk and does take some effort. We would not recommend it for people who have trouble walking or are not in a regular condition. We take regular stops and can do extra stops if needed.
  • As the ground can be slippery, you need to come wearing shoes with good grip.
  • There may be mosquitoes and bugs as the group will hike in the mountain, so we strongly recommend to wear long sleeve shirt and long pants.
  • The itinerary for this tour includes some locations that are not accessible by a wheelchair or stroller.
  • Summer in Japan is very hot and humid, so we recommend that you bring water and wear a hat to prevent heat stroke.

Highly recommend doing this when in Kyoto

This tour was an amazing experience!! I randomly heard about this from some other travelers, and I’m really glad I decided to do this. My guide, Noriko, was awesome!! She was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and spoke great English. Also, the route we took was a much better way to see Fushimi Inari. We avoided all the crowds and were able to take our time. I highly recommend doing this if you’re in Kyoto and plan to see Fushimi Inari.

Our tour guide, Take, was amazing. He shared so much information about Fushimi-Inari and Japan in general. He took great care to make sure everyone was safe the entire time. He took several pictures of us individually and as a group and then shared them with us after the tour. He’s a great photographer. If you have the opportunity, this is a great way to experience Fushimi-Inari.

An enchanting hike

We were lucky and only had 3 people in our group. Naru was our guide for this tour. He did a wonderful job at making sure that everyone was comfortable by keeping a pace that satisfied everyone, pointing out any hazards that we came across, and answering any questions were had. He had a good understanding of each interest point we came across and took the time to explain it to us. He offered to take pictures of us as well. We really enjoyed the hike as we were able to go places that had very few people around making it feel exclusive. The shrines that were tucked away in the forest felt enchanting and were quiet as there were very few people around. I want to recommended it, but afraid to ruin the magic of it by attracting more people to these magical trips!

Outstanding Tour of Kyoto

Hina gave an excellent tour. Unexpectedly, I was the only one signed up for her tour. I thought it might be awkward being the only person, but she was super easy to talk to and provided great insight into the history and traditions of the sites we visited. While we went past typical and crowded tourist spots such as the tory gates and the main shrines, this tour included more secluded areas around the mountain side such as the bamboo forest and other tucked away shrines that felt peaceful. I walked away from this tour feeling fulfilled seeing everything I wanted and more, while gaining a much deeper understanding of Japanese history, traditions, and culture. If given the choice, I would choose do this tour again. I would recommend anyone wanting to explore Kyoto or learn about Japan to do this tour!
