Overview

Grab your hiking boots and get ready, because you’re going to hike and climb the Sólheimajökull glacier in Southern Iceland! This is a comprehensive glacier tour, where you’ll learn about these massive natural phenomena from your guide and be provided with all the necessary equipment to get some exercise in full comfort and safety. You will also learn the basics of ice climbing and climb the vertical crevasse walls of Sólheimajökull glacier. Each guide has a maximum of 6 participants to ensure the safety of the group.

Meeting points

Please arrive at our meeting point 20 minutes before the departure time stated on ticket. The meeting point is at our bus marked Tröll Expeditions in the parking lot of Sólheimajökull. You can look up “Troll Expeditions Sólheimajökull” on Google Maps to find exact location and driving directions.

End point

This activity ends back at the meeting point.

Itinerary

The tour begins when you meet your guide in the Sólheimajökull parking lot and get all necessary equipment for the hike: crampons, ice axes, harnesses, helmets and climbing boots. Then you will hike for about 15 minutes to the ice itself to get the blood flowing and warm up for the climb.

Highlight of our holiday to Iceland!

This was my favourite part of our trip to Iceland! I was a little hesitant to book with the price, but it was completely worth it. You are supplied with appropriate shoes for the ice crampons so just bring stuff to keep you warm! Our guide Luis made the experience very enjoyable and he was very knowledgeable about the glacier and Iceland in general. Got to do two climbs in two different areas and then some exploration of the glacier. No previous experience needed and couldn't recommend this trip highly enough. Got some very cool photos and was an unforgettable experience!

Fantastic Ice Climbing Experience!

My partner and I recently partook in the glacier walk and ice climbing at Solheimajokull. The whole experience was smooth and without any hiccups. We were given all the gear, had a lovely hike to the base of the glacier and then began our ascent up and into the glacier. It was gorgeous - I couldnt believe how beautiful the whole area was. Vibrant green moss-covered mountains with waterfalls, icebergs in the glacier lagoon, and the glacier itself with its deep blues. Our French guide Kevin was fantastic - so knowledgeable about the glacier and extremely friendly. We felt safe the whole time and had a blast. A highlight of our trip. Would recommend!
