Overview

Experience rough volcanic terrain, icecaps/glaciers and unbridged rivers. Þórsmörk, valley of the Thunder God Thor, sits amongst three sparkling ice caps, Mýrdalsjökull, Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. Sights include Gígjökull where powerful glacial floods escaped during the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption. Our local guides will vividly tell you much about this eruption, including stories only locals know about.

Þórsmörk is located between three glaciers and volcanoes, Eyjafjallajokull (the one that erupted in 2010), Tindfjallajökull and Myrdalsjökull. On our way we cross glacial rivers, stop by the most interesting places including Gijokull Glacier - ice tongue of Eyjafjallajokull Volcano, and have short walks around. Inside of Þórsmörk is different hiking possibilities depending on your wishes. On our way to Þórsmörk, we also stop the canyons like Stakkholtsgjá and even at Nauthúsagil, a small beautiful canyon.

Amazing, beautiful scenery

Had a great time exploring Thorsmork with Midgard Adventure. We got to see some beautiful scenery and our guide was extremely knowledgable about the area. I definitely recommend doing a tour with Midgard and would also recommend eating at Midgard post tour as they have delicious options

Out of this world adventure!

The only way to visit Thorsmork - and the only team to take you! Thorir was our guide and he was AMAZING! He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the area. He explained a lot about how the island was formed and the history of the volcano and glacier region, both recent and prehistoric. The various hikes and stop-offs made are custom to the day/weather/abilities of those on the tour and there were so many. We climbed an easy pathed peak for views across the valley, visited two canyons, went behind an amazing waterfall and even got lucky and saw two arctic foxes on our visit! Can't wait to come back and use Midgard for other highland excursions. We can't say enough good things about Thorir and the whole Midgard team!!

Amazing adventure with super guide

This is a must do Adventure if you are on the south coast of Iceland. We were of group of 3 and were joined by 1 other guest and an amazing guide. Midgard does it the right way, the super jeep was spotless and traversed easily all of the rivers and streams out in Thorsmork. We saw valleys, gorges, canyons, waterfalls, glaciers, ravines and volcanoes during our trip. There were a couple hikes along the way to get deeper and higher into the impressive areas. This was such a unique and awe-inspiring location and Palmi, our guide, made it so much fun and explained all the history and elements that made this area so special to locals. This was the highlight adventure on our 5 day Iceland trip and I couldn't recommend Midgard (such great people and lodge), Palmi our guide, or this experience any higher 10/10

Everything, from stepping into the Midgard base/hotel to the trip itself and finishing with a burger before our drive back to Reykjavik, fantastic. We never felt rushed. The vehicle was clean, and the crampons provided by our guide were such a nice touch. Our guide Raggi was super cool, so down to earth. Very safety cautious and a pro in navigating across ice covered rivers. He kindly shared his Chickpea brownie with us, too. So good! Overall, very happy with Midgard and the tour.
