Our Behind the Scenes Tour is your ticket into the weird and wonderful world of Australian seafood. See: The hustle and bustle of the auction floor (normally closed to the public!). The Dutch auction system in action, selling more than 50 tonnes of fresh seafood to 150+ buyers. Over 100 seafood species in our famous blue crates, from the fan-favourites to the weird and wonderful. Discover: Brand new species of seafood that we bet you've never seen before. Tuna filleting (you might even spot one hanging from a forklift!). Live lobsters, sushi prep, oyster shucking, and more.

Meeting points

Your guide will meet you in the SFM foyer, which is on Level 1, above the main arcade. To find it, walk past the gift shop. enter the glass doors on the left side and go up the stairs or take the lift to Level 1. Take a seat on the black couches and your guide will check you in shortly.

Great experience, small group which made it better, Mike the guide was excellent and had hands on experience as a fisherman and knew all about the fish, crabs and answered any questions related.

Done the early morning tour of the fish markets . The tour was really interesting and the guide explained everything that was happening on the market floor as it was happening. Would highly recommend the tour if you are at all interested in the seafood industry and we are looking forward to do it again once the new market place is open.

Our tour guide Mike was amazing! The early morning behind-the-scenes tour was incredibly interactive; Mike made sure to bring the energy and continuously engage 25 college students at 6am (not easy to do!). I highly recommend booking a tour with Mike, as I’m not sure the tour would’ve been the same with someone else.
