Overview

Calling all lovers of nature and wildlife! Spend an afternoon and evening tracking down some of Australia's iconic wildlife in the wild. Venturing out when they are most active offers the best chance to spot our unique fauna - from timid marsupials to raucous, colourful birdlife. At the same time you'll contribute to the understanding and protection of Australian wildlife by reporting sightings on a citizen science database.

Meeting points

The meeting point is out in front of the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel, 30 Pitt Street, Sydney. It is a 2 minute walk from Circular Quay light rail stop, train station, bus stops and ferry wharves and a 5 to 20 minute walk from most central Sydney hotels. Please be ready 10 minutes prior.

Itinerary

  • Southern Highlands

    11:00am May - Oct / 12:00pm Nov - Apr Meet your Sydney Bespoke Tours guide at the meeting point to begin an afternoon and evening of wildlife spotting in the wild. Depart Sydney for the 90 minute drive south to the picturesque town of Bowral. En route, learn about the animals we are likely to find, some we might spot, and how we will record any sightings. On arrival, enjoy a light lunch before learning about local wildlife conservation projects, monitoring programs, and the signs to look for when tracking our more elusive wildlife. The rest of the afternoon will be spent spotting wildlife at several locations. The area hosts an abundance of birds - from the universally-loved kookaburra to a host of colourful parrots, including Crimson Rosella, Eastern Rosella, Galah, Yellow-tailed and Glossy black cockatoo, and even emu - as well as some of our most iconic animals, such as echidna. In the evening, enjoy a well-earned dinner at an historic pub before returning to Sydney.

I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. To start with the team are fantastic, they are great company on your adventure and impart their extensive knowledge, with humour, thoughout the trip. No trip to see wildlife can ever guarantee a sighting, on my trip I was lucky enough to see duck billed platypus, wombat, possum, emu, kangaroo, countless birds with a myriad of colours and sounds (the list is too long). If you're in Sydney and want to see wild Australian wildlife (not zoo life), this is definitely the trip for you. It's fantastic.
