Jonathan deserves a pay rise. What a brilliant guide. He couldn’t have done this tour any better if he tried.
Our group was mainly foreign visitors and a lot of teenagers (school holidays in Europe right now) who obviously weren’t alive when 9/11 happened. He pitched his “story” just right. It didn’t get boring and preachy for those of us who remember it quite well and not too heavy with details for those who knew very little.
I liked the start a little bit away from Ground Zero where he set the scene, then past the miraculous little survivor church onto Ground Zero. He was exceptionally respectful of where we were, but still managed to work in some humour when it was appropriate, which I think was important for such an important historical site.
I also loved how he wasn’t just telling the story of 9/11, but showed a breadth of knowledge, explaining the history of the area before 2001 to help put so many things into perspective and help us understand a lot more about the area.
Thank you for a great tour. You’re a real gem.
