This beautiful and vibrant square used to be the home of the city’s flower market. Only a couple flower vendors remain, as the rest have been replaced by café bars & eateries, becoming one of the hottest spots in town. Easy to reach no matter where you’re coming from, self-contained and peaceful, with no bothersome thru-traffic, the thriving square is teeming with life most hours of the day. We will enjoy a special delicacy from Crete, a pie like no other. It's called Sfakiani and is thin like crepe with soft cheese inside and honey on top! Sample Menu: Rakomelo: This famous alcoholic mixed drink is made by combining Raki (a grape flavoured brandy), with honey and warm spices like cardamom, cinnamon and local herbs.

Sample Menu: The ultimate Greek street food dessert: Loukoumades, aka “honey puffs” in the best place for 100 years. Constructed in 1833, Aiolou street is one of the oldest streets in Athens.

Psyri or Psiri is central, trendy & unconventional! It is a colorful neoclassical neighborhood known for its artisans, specialty stores, restaurants, bars, tavernas (with or without live music), theaters, art and antique shops, as well as a small number of hotels.

    15 minutes

  • Monastiraki (Pass By)

Located in the shadow of the Acropolis, the Monastiraki neighborhood is a blend of architectural styles, eras and cultures, sitting adjacent to the districts of Psyri, Plaka and Thisio. Monastiraki Square is one of the most enchanting squares in Athens, being the home to restaurants, cafes, shops, the famous flea market and plenty of ancient history. In the square, you can admire the sunken Church of Pantanassa, the only remaining part of the monastery (or rather nunnery) that existed on location during the Byzantine period and gave the area its name (Monastiraki means little monastery). But for many, Monastiraki is mostly synonymous with antiques and old treasures thanks to the flea markets and antique shops that dot the area towards Abyssinia Square.

Much more than a food tour!

Published on Jan, 2025

Visiting from Crete, we were more about the walk and discovering new places and less on food since I am familiar with. Having said that, the quality of everything was impeccable; freshly made pies with absolutely fresh ingredients all cut by hand, the best yoghurt I have ever tried, souvlaki as it should be, made to order peinrli and kunefe. In a nutshell, great food beautifully made. Our guide Valentini is a gem, really looking after us and flexing the tour to accommodate a couple of requests that we had. We loved this experience and would highly recommend it to anyone coming to Athens.

A Food Lovers’ Tour of Athens

Thank you, Valentini! Passionate and empathetic, Valentini guided us on a delightful journey, introducing us to the city's best souvlaki, koulouri, loukoumades, feta, and Greek yogurt. As Italian food lovers, this was the most fun and rewarding way to explore the city, its rich history, and its cultural influences. Athens truly stole our hearts!

An Experience you cannot miss. Food, Guide, Walk, Stories everything was perfect!

A very well paced tour with great balance between walking and eating. The food stops were diverse and delicious and everything was so fresh! We visited places that most would pass by without noticing and would have been a regret loss. Valentini our guide was superb, her knowledge and passion for both food and city history made our day very special. Excellent value for money, Don’t miss it!
