Overview

Spend the night living experience of “Cantinas”, Mexican taverns that have a unique mix between the old and the modern, places full of culture and Mexican history. As a result of progress and industrialization in Mexico, the working class and the middle class emerged. Thanks to this, the cantinas emerged in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These places were generally located in neo-colonial buildings in the areas of trade and commerce of that time, what we now know as the historical center. On this tour, you will walk through the historic center and visit the “Cantinas” that are frequented by the Tapatíos (word for Guadalajara citizens). Enjoy drinks and snacks typical of the region. In the “Cantinas” there is no discrimination; They are well known for their friendly and lively atmosphere. During the tour, your local host will share the history, myths, and legends behind each place. An essential tour if you have a few days to discover Guadalajara.

    One of the architectural jewels of Guadalajara was founded in 1861 during the reform war by General Santos Degollado.

  • Plaza de la Liberacion

    The largest and busiest square in the historic center of Guadalajara. Built-in the 1940s thanks to Governor Gonzalez Gallo and designed by the Guadalajara architect Ignacio Díaz Morales.

  • Cantina La Fuente

    Visit and enjoy the atmosphere of the most emblematic cantina in Guadalajara with more than 100 years of history, founded in 1921.

    The Plaza de Armas is the oldest in the historic center, founded in 1561 during the colonial era. Today in the center of the Plaza there is a French-style gazebo that was brought from Paris, France in 1910 by direct order of President Porfirio Díaz.

    The square of the two temples was an old Franciscan monastery founded in 1540. Unfortunately during the reform war in 1859, it was bombed and destroyed. The two temples that were inside the monastery are preserved.

  • Nueve Esquinas

    The neighborhood of the 9 corners is one of the oldest in the center, populated by indigenous and mestizo communities. It became famous for the "Birria" a goat stew that is a tradition in Guadalajara. There is the last Cantina of the tour.

Fernando was super knowledge and engaging on his knowledge about Jalisco and Mexican history. He took us to 3 quaint cantinas and ensured we experienced the specialties. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

What a great afternoon enjoying local drinks and learning more about Mexico's history. Fernando is an easy-going and knowledgeable guide. He shared his passion for local cantinas in Guadalajara. We enjoyed each place and the concersation along the way. We would definitely spend another day on this tour to visit different places

Fernando was a great guide. He gave us history lessons, sightseeing advice and had great english conversation skills. He does a really good job getting people to understand the importance of traditional cantinas. He was even willing to walk us to our next destination after the tour. Highly recommend

Great Tour...A history lesson with drinks!

My wife and I visited Guadalajara in July 2019. We signed up for this tour as we usually try to take tours like this within the cities we visit. Fernando, our guide, was great. For those who don't speak Spanish very well, have no fear! He was able to give us the tour in English. We had a great time on this tour. Fernando gave us a history lesson, of not only the bars we visited, but also the city and of Mexico. This ended up being a highlight of our trip. We would have walked right by these establishments if not for taking this tour. I'm kinda surprised that there aren't more reviews. I'm not sure that Mexico utilizes TA as much as we do in the states. But feel free to email and ask any questions.
