Overview

Uncover the little-known sake culture of Fushimi, Kyoto on a 3-hour insider brewery visit + sake tasting and food pairing session with an expert. Deepen your knowledge of sake making process and a bit of history of its production at Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum.  Enjoy the samples of different types of sake as well as leaning details and varieties and personalized attention from your guide on this small-group tour. This is a fun and educational experience to change your way of enjoying sake.   If you love sake but don't know what to select or want to know more about sake, join us and let's deep dive into the world of sake. After you experienced this, you will know which type of Sake actually you like, and you will be able to select your favorite Sake from labels or restaurant's menu even if they are all written in Japanese.

  • Sake breweries generally do not allow visitors to enter the production area for health and safety reasons. We will explain the production process during our tour of the brewery museum
  • For safety and legal reasons, alcohol will not be served to guests who arrive by car or bicycle (non-alcoholic drinks available). No refunds if unable to participate in the sake tasting.

This experience was awesome. Perfect amount of time, great mix of education and tastings. Greg was a wonderful tour guide and so knowledgeable, learned a huge amount that we can now use the rest of our time in Japan and back home in Aus. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kyoto!

The experience was amazing! So many tastings - about 10. The explanation is perfect in English and Momo is such an excellent guide- she helped me learn the whole process of Sake production and and how to pick based on the type of production. Really good. You have to do this tour if you like Sake.

Fantastic experience! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and also extremely fun. All their guides are certified sake sommeliers, which distinguishes this option from other sake tastings available in Kyoto. It included a tour of the museum, and a private group guided tasting with food pairings. The group was small and we had plenty of time to talk with the guide one-on-one for custom recommendations and questions. And it was well organized and seamless, even though I was a few minutes late and had to join the tour after it already started—smooth, easy, and well coordinated. Fabulous time and highly recommend! And most importantly, the sake was diverse, well-curated, and excellent! I’d recommend for any beginner or intermediate sake lovers (or the sake-curious).

WOW! I was blown away with the detail and quality of this tour. I was expecting a simple tasting with some history but I got a full understanding of the history of Sake (nihonsu), how it’s made and tasted over 10 types and learned why they are different. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto.
