I had booked my first “layover tour” through Viator last year when I had an 8 hour layover in Dubai overnight on a work trip. So when I had a 6 hour layover in Amsterdam for a work trip, I knew I wanted to get a “layover tour”. I looked through a lot of options, and Connie looked very promising. Having had another experience in a different time and place to compare to, I can say that Connie is next level! It was fantastic. So many things were better.
First, you know exactly the person who will be your tour guide. The communication was great. Early on she reached out, and we connected on WhatsApp. She’s open to anything that you want to do, or you can turn the reins over to her to decide (or somewhere in between). We worked out some rough ideas weeks before the date. Then checked back in a couple of days before up until we met.
She met me in the airport right at my arrival gate, and we headed to Amsterdam Central on the train. We used the lockers in the train station for me to store my bags. We first did a canal tour that was 1 hour (at my request - I needed to pay for the tour). The boat tour guide shared some things, but Connie had lots more to share. The canal tour was a great way to see things, and gives a great vantage point of the city.
After we finished that, we rented bikes (also at my request - I needed to pay to rent the bikes), and then did a bike tour. We stopped at several places along the way. She was always willing to take pictures wherever I wanted. Riding bikes is a huge thing in Amsterdam. It also let us cover a bunch of ground. And I just like to ride bikes, so that was great.
The other thing I wanted to try was some local street food, and have it not take too long. She picked a great place (Jonk) that we stopped with our bikes. I had Brooje Hering (herring sandwich), and Kibbeling (fried code). They were the perfect things to try.
Connie is also such a great person. So pleasant and nice to spend time with. If you’re thinking of doing a tour of Amsterdam, Connie should be the one you choose!
