It contains the tombs of the first kings of Egypt during the era of the first and second dynasties, and it contains antiquities from the nineteenth dynasty. And the lands of this region were considered sacred in the eyes of the ancient Egyptians, as it had a sublime religious status in the belief of the Pharaohs, thanks to its connection with the ancient people’s idol Osiris, and the Pharaohs believed in the past that the head of this god was buried in this region, and some of them even believed that his whole body was buried in it.

Dendera Temple Complex

Hathor was among the most important and popular deities in ancient Egypt. She was associated with music, joy, dance and motherhood; she was also known as the lady of the sky. Her main cult center was at Dendera where one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt stands today. The entrance of the temple, with six massive columns surmounted with the head of Hathor, is considered among the most beautiful monuments in Egypt. Sistrums (a musical instrument) closely associated with the goddess, frame her head. The temple of Dendera dates back to the Ptolemaic Period, although evidence points to older structures once existing on the site, dating as far back as king Pepy I, from the Old Kingdom. Among the temple’s most notable features are astronomical engravings on its ceiling.

The excursion to visit the temples of Abydos and Dendera this January 2025 was extraordinary, with an exceptional driver and breathtaking monuments. It was the first time a tour agency driver arrived ahead of the scheduled time at our hotel. Must know the Riad is difficult and takes time you will never forget su h experience Thank you to Eye of Egypt! Abydos and Dendera are truly handled by an agency that lives up to its reputation.

Achmed was a very responsible and nice driver, who speaks English. His car was spacious and comfortable. He also provided complimentary water bottles and juices. Furthermore the communication was clear and timely, even though we booked last minute. We were very happy to visite the temples of Dendera and Abydos. They are both an absolute day trip must when you are visiting Luxor. We would highly recommend booking this tour!
