Itinerary

  • Batu Caves

The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old. Some of the cave entrances were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people (a tribe of Orang Asli). As early as 1860, Chinese settlers began excavating guano for fertilising their vegetable patches. However, they became famous only after the limestone hills were recorded by colonial authorities including Daly and Syers as well as American Naturalist, William Hornaday in 1878. Batu Caves was promoted as a place of worship by K. Thamboosamy Pillai, an Indian trader. He was inspired by the vel-shaped entrance of the main cave and was inspired to dedicate a temple to Lord Murugan within the caves. In 1890, Pillai, who also founded the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Kuala Lumpur, installed the murti (consecrated statue) of Sri Murugan Swami in what is today known as the Temple Cave. Since 1892, the Thaipusam festival in the Tamil month of Thai (which falls in late January/early February) has been celebrated there. Wooden steps up to the Temple Cave were built in 1920 and have since been replaced by 272 concrete steps. Of the various cave temples that comprise the site, the largest and best known is the Temple Cave, so named because it houses several Hindu shrines beneath its high vaulted ceiling. In August 2018 the 272 steps were painted in an extraordinary colour scheme, with each set of steps painted in a different range of colours. However accusations were almost immediately made by the National Heritage Department for a breach of law requiring authorisation for renovations within 200 metres of a heritage site. The temple's management disputed their failure to receive authorisation.

  • Genting Skyway

Enjoy the breathetaking view with a 10min gondola cable car ride across the Awana SkyWay. The Genting Skyway is one of the two aerial lines serving Genting Highlands, with the Awana Skyway serving as an alternate route. The monocable gondola lift was officially opened by the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir on 21 February 1997. Genting Skyway can carry more than 2,000 people per hour with 8 passengers per gondola. At the maximum speed of 6 metres per second (21.6 km/h), the 3.38-kilometre (2.10 mi) journey up the mountain peak takes approximately 15 minutes, depending on the weather. The system was designed by Leitner Ropeways.

  • Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm

Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm is a family-friendly attraction in Genting Highlands, where you can spend an afternoon exploring its many colourful fruit farms and flower gardens. Set within Bandar Gohtong Jaya, it’s accessible within a six-minute drive from the Genting Premium The idea of a hill resort located near Kuala Lumpur occurred to Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong during a business trip to the Cameron Highlands in 1964. He mooted this idea while enjoying the fresh and crisp air from the balcony of his hotel room. A private company called Genting Highlands Berhad was set up on 27 April 1965, with the late Tan Sri Haji Mohammed Noah bin Omar, Tan Sri Lim successfully obtained approval for the alienation of 12,000 acres (4,900 ha) and 2,800 acres (1,100 ha) of land from the Pahang and Selangor State Government respectively between the years 1965 and 1970. An anomaly happened during the obtaining of the land approvals. While the Pahang state government swiftly approved a freehold lease, the Selangor state reluctantly approved a 99-year lease. As a result, Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong met the then Menteri Besar of Selangor, Dato Harun Idris and told him that a freehold lease would be more feasible than a 99-year lease. Finally, the Selangor state government agreed to grant a freehold lease.

  • Genting Highlands Premium Outlets

The integrated hill resort represents a popular weekend getaway from the city heat, connected by major highways, trunk roads and cable cars service from Gohtong Jaya and is accessible by car within an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur (about 35 km), or accessible by two different cable cars, Genting Skyway which at its opening was the world's fastest and South East Asia's longest gondola lift, and the newer Awana Skyway. The idea of a hill resort located near Kuala Lumpur occurred to Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong during a business trip to the Cameron Highlands in 1964. Batu caves worth visiting

Published on Oct, 2024

Started with genting and later Batu caves which is beautiful, with a big difference from instagram shots being the crowds. The monkeys are not a joke . It rained so much but we still went on our visit and enjoyed it.

A great experience...

A great day with a great tour. Our driver, Mohammed, was the perfect host. He was prompt, cordial, and shared lots of info about the caves and the highlands. He was always doing anything, and everything possible to make our experience fantastic. As I've mentioned...a really great tour. Thank you Mohammed!!!

A great day trip !

Published on May, 2022

Had a wonderful day trip going to Batu caves, followed by Genting Highlands. We started from KLCC at around 10:30 a.m. and was back home at 7 p.m. One day is enough only if you want to spend just an hour or two in each of the places, otherwise you can spend an entire day (or two) in Genting Highlands alone. But overall, for us this was a perfect package arranged by Viator. Also, special thanks to our guide Mr. Navin for making the journey very enjoyable for us.
