Contrary to some of the other reviews that I had read prior to booking this tour, I in fact quite liked it.We were picked up from our Hotel in Hauptbahnoff at 07:35 AM.Though it was a short drive from our Hotel to the Tour starting point,I had a great conversation with the driver who was originally from Poland. After picking us up he picked up another Spanish couple and then dropped us at Schwedenplatz from where the tour began.A few others who may have arrived on their own were already waiting there.
After this we were all moved to a bigger bus.Unfortunately as soon as we started, only after about 1-2 km,our bus driver slammed into the right side of a BMW car at a turn. The bus driver was then stopped by the car owner at the Red light and this incident lead to about wasting 30-40 mints of our time. The co-driver/conductor apologised post the incident. We reached Bratislava around 10:30 AM.After this our we were introduced to 2 guides. One was Mike and the other was a lady (sorry i don't remember the name but she was a bit elderly). We did our walking tour with the lady. Her voice was a bit low in comparison to few of the other guides on the streets who were doing similar walking tours. She gave us a map of Bratislava and mentioned about our point from where we would board the Twin City Liner Catamaran cruise at 06:30 Pm.She suggested us to reach there at 06:00 PM only as we had to first collect the tickets from the inside.
The walking tour in Bratislava was about 1.5 hrs.She showed us the castle from outside, an old pharmacy shop whose building was not in a great condition,Hans Christian statue, took us to the old town, showed us the shops to get good local food, guided on shopping areas. She ended her tour at Opera at abt 12:10 PM.We still had a good 6 hrs to spend and in Bratislava there isnt a lot to see.You can cover the old town in 3 hrs if you want. The guide had also mentioned of an option of taking the 2:30 PM return Catamaran to Vienna by paying 10 euros per person extra. In summers the 04:00 Pm return catamaran doesnt run else that may have been ideal.Eventually most of our group members went back with the 06:30 PM catamaran only as it seems no one wanted to pay extra.
We walked around the old town initially and took a few pictures. In fact we had that much free time that we eventually walked till the Shopping Mall Aupark and found restaurants on its top floor. We had Lunch at Pizza Hut.There were other options too like Burger King,Asian Restaurant,Indian Restaurant - Bombay Express.etc.We came back to Old town (which was abt 1.8-2 km from Aupark mall) and did a bit of shopping (souvenirs). We had ice cream on our walk back to the catamaran cruise boarding point. The tickets were given to us inside the office of the Twin City Liner. You just have to tell them that you are with Vienna City sightseeing tour company or showcase the Blue stickers (given in the morning to put up at a visible place on ur dress). Please note that the Catamaran cruise has seat numbers mentioned on it.So sit there only.We and a few others who boarded initially and took the window seats were asked to vacate those seats as those sears belonged to some other passengers.
Overall a good day trip with plenty of time in Bratislava and worth the price i feel.
