Overview

This storytelling walk through the vineyards is in partnership with the Constantia Wine Route and has exclusive access to the private trails. Created by a leading travel journalist, the tour tells the story of the four winemakers who have helped to shape the Constantia Wine Valley over the past 330 years, and who helped to make it the most sought-after wine in the world in the 1700s, desired by everyone from Queen Victoria and Marie Antoinette to Casanova and Napoleon. The tour features 10 wine tastings, a harvest platter lunch and visits three of Cape Town's most iconic wine farms. This immersive experience is completely unique and will draw you into a world of fine wine and dramatic stories worthy of a Hollywood script.

Itinerary

Groot Constantia

Visit South Africa's oldest wine farm and walk through its vineyards on a 1.5 hour loop learning about the winemakers who have helped to shape the wine farm over the past 330 years. Taste 4 wines and visit the historical buildings and cellar.

Walk 45 minutes on private trails to another iconic wine farm, Klein Constantia. We taste three wines here, including South Africa's top-ranked Vin de Constance. We will visit a historical Kramat and a famous gravestone, as well as walk through the vineyards, while admiring mountain and sea views.

Buitenverwachting

Walk 30 minutes to Buitenverwachting where we taste 3 wines and enjoy a harvest platter lunch. We will walk through the vineyards and enjoy the estate of one of Cape Town's most popular wine farms, which is also home to a coffee roastery, deli, design studio and fine-dining restaurant.

On Saturday my husband and I did the Constantia Wine walk and really enjoyed every minute. Matt is a fantastic storyteller and so knowledgeable. He spoilt us with MCC and Pastei de Nata and a snack pack. The wine tasting were excellent at the 3 wineries we visited. Finished off with a delicious lunch. Would go it again and will definitely be encouraging friends and family to experience the walk.

As a local, it was wonderful to learn about the characters that were instrumental in starting the story of our neighborhood. Matt is an excellent storyteller and made the tour one that I would recommend to everyone. Of course the splendid wines and delicious meal rounded off everything perfectly. Looking forward to doing some of your other tours.

Constantia Wine Walk is different to any other winelands tour experience. Matt's walks are immersive, education and fun - much like walking with nature-loving friend. Matt has done extensive research in curating the routes and talks. It is no surprise then that Constantia Wine Walk was awarded the 2025 Best of Wine Tourism Awards Runner-Up in the category of Innovative Wine Tourism Experience. Matt's unique way of expressing facts through storytelling and his personable, authentic hospitality makes Constantia Wine Walk something completely new in Western Cape tourism. It is a truly unforgettable experience. Being in the wine industry, my curiosity was reignited, and I felt inspired to revisit the Constantia region after a long while away. Matt's humility, humour and his enjoyment of people and nature, and his love for history - beautifully packaged as an educational experience, is time well spent.
