Like every private tour like this, the experience is as much about what you want to experience as it is what is described. Our guide Dramma took us into a lava tube, helped us check out Rainbow Falls, took us on a walk into the barren and amazing 2018 eruption field and up to the rim of Fissure 8 that was the source of all that destruction and beauty. We also wandered down beautiful Banyan Drive and into Liliuokalani Gardens, browsed some Hilo shops, bought local fruits in the Hilo farmers market, and grabbed a coffee in peaceful Pahoa. We opted not to drive into the volcano national park, as fissure 8 was a lot more interested and accessible. Dramma had a truly Hilo / Hawaiian vibe - spiritual, down to earth, and deeply versed in the people, lore, history and natural beauty of the island. A fun and informative day!
