Named 'Tasmania's Best Guided Tour' in 2018, a Gordon River Cruise takes you deep into the UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, to explore a place rich with natural histories and tales of human history. Cruise into this wild place aboard Spirit of the Wild, a custom-built vessel, equipped with electric motors to allow you to cruise quietly on the Gordon River and experience its true tranquility. An absolute highlight of our holiday in Tasmania

Firstly we woke to a beautiful blue sky day for our tour and having travelled all the way from the UK for what may be a once in a lifetime experience we counted ourselves lucky. From the moment we stepped onto the boat and went up to the Premium Upper Deck we knew it was going to be a great day. Apart from the luxury seats ( Row 2 as we had booked so early) with big viewing windows there was plenty of space in the middle with newspapers, and breakfast all laid out to help yourself. There is a private viewing deck and once we set sail we found out that whilst the day before the PUD was full it was only half full our day so plenty of room and amazing service. The tour starts by heading out towards the ocean which was so calm and then to the Gordon river itself. I met with the Captain who gave me lots of information, a lovely character. Once we began our journey up the river we were served canapés and bubbles out on the private viewing deck we felt like millionaires. You could have whatever you liked on the drink front. There was a lovely group of guests that all chatted together adding to the experience. The information screens told great stories of life on gone by days about the area. We stopped on Sarah Island very pretty and our guide was very knowledgable about the history of the island. Back on board lunch had been set up and was delicious the salmon especially so. Sailing back to Strahan I didn’t want the day to end it had been so magical. The staff were simply awesome. Katie had her little daughter Jaz who was ten helping during the trip and what a charming young girl who worked politely and diligently all day. Thank you to the whole team it was worth every penny. I recommend you book early to secure the premium upper deck.

A excellent day out buffet lunch was excellent and running cometary was informative we booked the centre seats which were great as you can get up and move around the boat so you don’t have to be seated the whole time we really enjoyed the day

Premium seating upstairs, a rare treat for me. Pre allocated seating. Greeted with a drink and canapé. The cruise is exactly as described. The short wilderness walk is guided by staff from the cruise, and Sarah Island short guided walk by well informed guides, who can be seen active in other attractions at Strahan. Food was excellent, and included. Wines and beers were on offer, local and special. I chose none alcoholic drinks, and enjoyed tea and ginger beer. Worth every penny and a real treat. Highly recommended.
