What's not to like when one has not only 1 but 2 guides that know the geology, botany and history of this unique area just North of the Garden Route. We decided to take this tour for 2 reasons: one, not being natives and having rented a classic sedan, we didn't want to attempt the road and second, had we done it alone we would have missed seeing and understanding the significance of what Mother Nature and remarkable 1880s engineering has provided to those of us in the 21st century. We love exchanges with local people, and having the opportunity to do that with our guides (which would never have happened on a bus tour) was a highlight. The weather was perfect, so plan accordingly for panoramic views - and since you won't be driving, you can concentrate on what you are seeing. Plenty of opportunities to photograph the spectacular vistas from different elevation levels. Lunch was a pleasant way to end the tour. We understand that the local restaurants providing lunch may change during the seasons, and we were happy with what was organized for our tour. Thanks again to our hosts/guides for a very memorable day spent in your company.
