    "It is a representative temple of Nara, where the Great Buddha is very famous. The Great Buddha Hall is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world. Also it is a temple where a lot of national treasures and heavy cultural properties are kept."

    In the precincts, there is a red-painted and elegant shrine, which has been famous since ancient times as a famous place for wisteria.     Kofuku-ji is the former temple built as a private residence of Fujiwara Kamatari in Yamashina, Kyoto. It was moved to the present location by Fujiwara nofuhito with the Heijo shift capital in 710. At that time, it was named Kofuku-ji. Since then, it prospered as Mr. Fujiwara's temple, and was named one of the four great temples in the early Nara period.

Nara was wonderful! Emiko our guide skillfully guided us through Nara park past hordes of hungry deer to show us the amazing art, architecture, and tressures of the shrines and temples. I can't reccommend it more highly!

My guide Makino (Mike) was very kind, generous, and spoke great English. Since he’s lived in the US, he was very familiar American culture. He arrived early and was waiting for me in the lobby with a sign with my name which made it very easy. He guided me very efficiently through the public transport and made sure I was comfortable and enjoying myself. We had a beautiful day in Nara with the deer and visiting the Buddhist and Shinto temples.
