Overview

Your exploration begins outside PJs coffeehouse, a local treasure that features beignets. The tour itself focuses on the historic Garden District, lasts two hours and covers about 1.5 miles. Your expert guide will provide a quick overview of Louisiana history before delving into the architectural gems of the neighborhood. Historical context acknowledging the indigenous presence, the slave economy, the patrons of the mansions along with the architects are discussed. Local burial traditions are reflected upon OUTSIDE the gates of the historic Lafayette cemetery. Lastly a few pop culture references and celebrity related addresses are included with a special stop reserved for the Buckner Mansion, known to fans of American Horror Story (AHS) as the Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. ****Due to the City of New Orleans closing of the Lafayette cemetery for renovations , there will be NO access into the cemetery and an overview will be presented OUTSIDE of the gates.

    The adventure starts on famous Magazine Street, known for its amazing shopping and dining options. Your friendly and knowledgeable guide will start the tour outside of a great place for a pre-tour snack (at own expense). Learn about the history of the Louisiana Purchase and how it affected the area.

    This opulent Greek Revival mansion is very popular due to the numerous filming projects that have taken place at this location. Most notably, the third season of American Horror Story (AHS) known as Coven, has inspired fans to flock here.

Excellent walking tour of the Garden District

The tour was excellent. Danell was a wonderful, knowledgable guide and a long-time resident of the city. She kept the group moving at an appropriate pace with plenty of stops for information. My wife and I thought ourselves well-informed about New Orleans history but still learned new things. The overall time and distance were very good. The only thing to note is that, as the tour info warns, New Orleans' sidewalks are not the best, but we knew that in advance. Meeting at a coffee house and stopping en route at another one for a break were ideal. We highly recommend the Two Chicks tour.

Beautiful Day, Beautiful City

Did the Garden Walking Tour with Two Chicks. Bonnie, our tour guide was so marvelous and sweet. I learned so much about the homes and the history of this wonderful city and she allowed me to dawdle behind the others and grab some pictures of these beautiful homes which I can share with others. Highly recommend this tour.

Great tour of the beautiful garden district. Did this tour with my wife for our anniversary and we both truly enjoyed it. We have been local to New Orleans for almost a year and we still learned so much that we did not know and saw so much of the city we had never seen before. Extremely worth it!

Most Memorable Tour of NOLA

We had an incredible experience on our Garden District walking tour thanks to Karen, our guide! With her background working for the city of New Orleans, she was a wealth of knowledge, especially when it came to property laws and famous homeowners. She was more than equipped to answer all of our questions. What really stood out, though, was her in-depth understanding of architectural styles and how they relate to different time periods. She truly brought the mansions of the Garden District to life! Karen did a fantastic job of tying together history with the present day, giving us a deep understanding of how the area evolved over time. Her pacing was perfect—not too slow, not too fast. Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn more about New Orleans' rich history and architecture!
