Take a deep dive into Aswan and Nubian culture with Aisha, who I affectionately call the “Ambassador of Aswan.” From the very beginning Aisha’s warmth comes through. I had no time for breakfast, but she brought me delightful pastries. From there we discussed my interest and what I was hoping to get out of the day. I told her it was my birthday and I wanted to have fun. We went over the plan—but she had some nice surprises. What was best was nothing was scripted when we got to the Philae Temples. I heard other guides who sounded like they were reading from a boring novel—not Aisha. She was having a genuine conversation with me and correcting things they taught when I went to school that were inadequate. From there we went to Gheve Perfume house—which is an experience in of itself. The young man was knowledge and the staff supporting him were attentive. I was interested in gold so we went next door to New Scarab and there was no pressure to purchase—though there may be kickbacks, and so what. People from Aswan support each other and you will see than readily. It’s the spirit of Aswan. You won’t find that in other parts of Egypt. I felt embraced by everyone I meet—from the stores to the gardens and Nubian house. Lunch was delicious with a spectacular view. I enjoyed the Aswan Botanical Garden The felucca was so relaxing and riding a tuk tuk is an interesting experience. I went to class at a Nubian school and learned to count and other words. Fun day and Aisha’s driver was Amir, who was friendly, punctual and supportive. This was one of the best birthdays I ever had. There are some things to note, that Aisha may not have been aware of, I am taking no points off this review for this, but you may want to note. I did not look up the perfume place and jewelry place for reviews. Both have poor reviews. Learn about the cost for gold for the day, authentic Egyptian gold stamping and craftsmanship does not impact cost. Gold is by weight. I wore the good in Alexandria and it was hot. It did not turn color. I tested it in my hand and it sank in water. It hasn’t turned my skin. There are sites that will tell you how Egyptian gold is marked. Look before purchasing. I don’t know if my necklace and pendant are real. On the perfume place—it’s essential oils—when you Google, customers say that what they took home was not what they smelled. It is costly. So in hindsight, I would have smelled each one and watched them package it. Do not just let them package it without smelling it first. I don’t know what I have, but will find out later. I was told that these places are reputable, but read reviews and judge yourself. I only added this because I don’t want no one to be dupe and both places can be costly. Overall, fantastic day and chose Aisha.
