Overview

Haridwar is an ancient city and important Hindu pilgrimage site in North India's Uttarakhand state, where the River Ganges exits the Himalayan foothills. The largest of several sacred ghats (bathing steps), Har Ki Pauri hosts a nightly Ganga Aarti (river-worshipping ceremony) in which tiny flickering lamps are floated off the steps. Loved Ganga Aarti ceremony

One of the best day tour in India. Started at 6 from Delhi and reached Rishikesh at 10. The way was a bit longer but enjoyed each and every part of the tour. We were curious to see Ganga river side and eventually the Ganga Aarti was one of the most spritual ceremony. Thanks to the tour operator and driver with guide for all the support. Our trip to Rishikesh and Haridwar was absolutely brilliant—one of the most spiritual and memorable experiences of my life. From start to finish, our tour guide, Chandresh, was exceptional, providing deep insights into every site we visited, making the journey even more meaningful. One of the most special moments was participating in the Ganga Aarti, a mesmerizing and sacred ceremony on the banks of the Ganges. Watching the lamps float down the river while hearing the rhythmic chants was truly magical. We also had the opportunity to take a dip in the holy river, which was both refreshing and deeply symbolic. If you’re considering visiting Rishikesh and Haridwar, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s a must-do for anyone seeking a meaningful and transformative experience.

My wife and I traveled from USA to Haridwar in January and had an excellent one night stay at the Sarovar Portico. The hotel is impeccably maintained, with an impressive, tasteful decor and delicious buffet breakfast. The room was reasonably priced, heated/climate controlled and I recommend taking the breakfast.
