Another excellent tour in Shanghai, this time a culinary tour and boat voyage, brought to us by Sunny Tours Shanghai after our very satisfying experience a couple of days ago with their Shanghai Zoo and Water Town tour. We had another very well-versed guide, Roy, who was friendly, personable, spoke excellent English and ensured we had a great time. We are a neurodiverse family and find sensory experiences sometimes challenging, and Roy took this in his stride along the way.
We had another small snafu (my fault, read on) at the start of the tour - normally for this tour, you would meet at a designated spot in Shanghai, but as we were staying at the Radisson Blu New World (btw, if you want a central, excellent, and well priced. high-end hotel in Shanghai, right on People’s Square, check it out) our tour guide from the previous tour has let me know to simply meet our guide in the lobby - which, being ADHD I promptly forgot - leading to me taking the family on a wild excursion for 45 mins across town, before Sunny contacted me to say that our guide was waiting for us at the hotel. Doh! I thought I’d caused us to miss the tour, but Sunny was on to it, shared Roy’s phone number with me and as a team we arranged that I’d taxi us back to the hotel and salvage it. 30 mins later, we were back at our hotel, with Roy reassuring me along the way that there was no problem. We’d be fine to make the boat trip portion too. Arrived back to the hotel and Roy greeted us there, calm and professional. Off we went. What followed was a highly enjoyable walking tour, sampling some of the best Xiao Long Bao we have tasted, traditional Shanghaiese snacks and dumplings, all the while Roy was sharing snippets of history of the areas we walked through and the various styles of food and the regions they came from. Even though I had made us late, we never felt rushed. Roy then organised a driver and we headed to the Bund for our river tour. The river cruise was approximately an hour and it was also fantastic, Roy gave us the history of the areas we passed by and the amazing light show on all the high-rise buildings was stunning. At the conclusion, normally the tour finishes there and you make your own way back, but Roy very kindly arranged a drive back to the hotel for us. Excellent service, highly recommend Roy and Sunny Tours Shanghai.
