Overview

Enter the largest archaeological complex still being excavated in Rome and walk with a knowledgeable guide through the many rooms of Nero's palace that can be visited today. Delve into the tragic story of Emperor Nero, whose reign was marked by both lavish indulgence and growing unpopularity. Separate fact from fiction with your expert guide, debunking myths surrounding the infamous fire of 64 AD. Explore the sumptuous vaulted halls and hallways admiring spectacular frescoes that have been meticulously restored, some of them glittering with decorations that gave the palace the nickname of “Golden House”. Then put on the Oculus Rift offered during the visit and enjoy, in one of the inner halls of Nero's palace, the 3D virtual reconstruction experience of some of the halls, the great outside portico, and the splendid view the palace must have enjoyed. See with your own eyes what Nero's Palace must have looked like at its peak and compare it with what remains today.

Wonderful tour - especially with Rosario Gorgone

Any visit to the recently-reopened Domus Aurea is worth your time, but if you are fortunate enough to get Rosario as your guide, you are twice-blessed. His commentary added so much to the basic tour. Our conversation outside of the group was equally enlightening and enjoyable.

The significance of the guide, Rosario, could not be overstated - his words of great importance and convenience were impeccably useful. I am a college student researching the Domus Aurea and Italian culture, and I couldn't had a better experience as I learned an exponential amount within one morning.
