2024 museum trip

Published on Feb, 2025

Amazing experience and museum - especially the immersive earth exhibit. Dinosaur and bat areas were also really cool.

Top Museum

This was an impressive museum with quite a lot to see inside that will entertain both adults and children. I found the First Nation exhibits to be quite eye opening and quite detailed. The dinosaur exhibits were undergoing some noisy construction so much of them were not accessible other than a platform looking into the room. The major skeletons were located on the other side of the construction zone tour able via the sea section. I also found the sea section to be quite in depth and immersive. It was really well done tracing the evolution of so many long extinct sea life found in Canadian waters. Chinese, Korean, Egyptian, Roman and more cultures were also on display. For gems and minerals fans the ROM also had a large room full of different varieties. I wish I had more time to explore but it’s worth as much time one can spare.

Lots of interesting...

Lots of interesting things to see! We especially enjoyed the Roman exhibit. I wish the south Asian exhibit was open that day, but hopefully next time we come we can see it.

An awesome day at the ROM

The latest 3 exhibitions have surpassed my expectations. The curators have chosen their artefact content brilliantly and have done a spectacular job in interpretation and presentation of each theme. In Immersive Earth, you walk into a life-size journey through audio and video Natural surroundings of forest, meadow and ocean. Nature in Brilliant Colour takes you through a rainbow of colours in Nature with fascinating artifacts and explanations. Auschwitz was beyond amazing. Each entrant was given a headset and control to explore the tragic expanse of the 2 notorious "death camps" of Poland during WWII. Although we were told it is 90 minutes long, most were there for between 2-3 hours. Very emotional and the individual headphones prevented loud chatter and helped to create an ambience of respect, empathy and reverence for the victims of the genocide and their tragic endurance through one of the world's most horrific chapters. A must see. Even though it was a Saturday when I visited, the traffic flow was controlled and people were given as much time as they needed for exploration at their own pace. Small quiet / private spaces were designated for stress relief , dabbing at tears and gathering one's emotions. I highly recommend a day at the ROM
