In this Culinary adventure, you will not only discover the unique flavors of local cooking but also about Singapore's multi racial culture through stories shared by the hosts who are licenced Tour Guides and experienced Chefs with a passion for cooking and local food. As part of this experience, you will visit a local wet market and enjoy an iconic Singapore breakfast before returning to the studio for the cooking experience. Ngoh Hiang is the Singaporean version of five-spice minced meat rolls wrapped with beancurd skin.

MAIN

Laksa

Laksa (Peranakan cuisine) consists of rice vermicelli with prawn or fish, served in spicy soup based on rich and spicy curry coconut milk broth.

DESSERT

Kueh Dadar

Rolled crepe flavored with pandan juice and filled with grated coconut steeped in gula melaka (palm sugar)

Fun and educational

Don’t normally write reviews yet I want to help support fun local experiences. This location was easy to find and had a coffee shop to hang out in nearby if you get there a bit early. We had one other couple who was from abroad in our class and two local couples which made the experience fun and brought a different kind of experience and understanding of local culture. We started walking to the wet market and learned history of the area and context which made the cooking more entertaining and fun. We met some vendors and heard a bit of how to choose items. Then we went back and began cooking. Chef colin was entertaining, knowledgeable, and helped make me a better cook. Food was delicious and he gave us take-away containers because there was so much. We got the recipes at the end and I would feel comfortable trying these again at home. Overall would say it is a fun experience if you like cooking and want to learn a bit about local food and experiences.

Best way to spend the morning in Singapore

Our chef, Collin, met us at the cooking school on time at 9am. We had a group of 4 (and 2 other couples) We immediately left for the wet market to shop fresh ingredients. We learned about the importance of choosing the right ingredients. I loved the individualized attention. We made 3 different dishes. All of which were fantastic, even for us first-timers. Thank you Collin for the wonderful experience!

It was a great experience, and what a fantastic guide, with some much in depth knowledgeable on Singapore and its food cultures. I wouldn’t 100% recommend it.

Great Cultural Experience!

My wife and I were traveling through Singapore on our honeymoon and this was such a great way to start one of our days here. Denise was so nice and gave us a great background on the history of Singapore, its people and these traditional dishes. The cooking class was so fun and we had a blast walking through the wet market learning about the food and culture. Highly recommend!
