Overview

I, your local guide, will pick you up from your accommodation in the Levi area with my mini van. The group is small, maximum 8 people. We will travel about 35 minutes towards the wilderness village of Lompolo where a wilderness cabin, Soma Hide Out, awaits us. There we will go ice fishing for perch. If we catch fish, we'll fry them in a traditional hut (kota) and also grill some sausages. After fishing, we'll eat a delicious soup lunch and drink coffee and tea. When the fishing is over, we'll visit a local reindeer farm and feed the reindeer with lichen. At the reindeer farm, you can also buy antlers to take with you, so remember to bring cash! Throughout the day, you'll hear many stories about Lapland, life here, nature, reindeer, and the Northern Lights. You'll take home lots of wonderful memories and photos!

    We trave here with a car about 40 minutes from Levi. We have here nice and cosy wilderness cabin and a kota to make a bonfire.

    First we head out for our spot of fishing. Ice fishing is a traditional, Lappish way of fishing in winter and involves drilling a hole in the ice and waiting to see if the fish hiding under the ice will agree to take a bite. While fishing, we also enjoy the warmth of a campfire and roasting sausages. After fishing we will head to the atmospheric wilderness cabin of Soma Hideout for a delicious fish soup lunch.

We had such a special morning and lunch with Heli, visiting a reindeer farm and learning about farming in Finland. We fed them lichen, walked among them, and led one around do we could see them up close. We then went to the most beautiful lake house and had warm juice and used the compost toilet before head a short way out on the ice to catch fish. We fish at home but this was so different. The silence, sunshine and soulful location were amazing and have caught 3 fish we enjoyed them and homemade soup and cake for lunch. A truly wonderful time, we will treasure the memory forever.
