The drive to and from the park is not for the faint hearted. It took us 16.5 hours there and back but we are in Kilifi.
The drive through Mombasa on the way back was horrendous, with poor roads and gridlocked traffic.
Enough of the negatives.
The experience in the park was unforgettable.
I have never seen so many herds of elephant and lone bulls. The park is vast and so you just have to be patient and hope the animals want to be seen.
The elephants crossed our path and later we found a herd drinking and having a good scratch by the side of the road.
It was just a wonderful experience that I will never forget and puts the horrendous journey in the back of my mind.
We also saw ostrich, giraffe close up, zebra, eagles, buffalo and impala/antelope.
No lions but it was hot in the afternoon when we had our best animal encounters and as they sleep nearly all day, would be hard to spot.
Lunch was delicious at Sentrim camp and reasonable in price.
I wanted to do the one day trip because we have another 2 day safari in a few days but it just gives a break from being by the beach.
I would say that on these long journeys there should be 2 members of staff to drive. Peter our guide was amazing but was falling asleep at the wheel and that is dangerous for him and us.
He left us in Kilifi at 9:30pm after a 5 am pick up and we feared for his safety heading back to Mombasa.
