Overview

This is not another walking tour. These small group tours whisk you off the beaten path by private tuktuk and offer unlimited beer and soda while you and your English speaking guide watch the city pass by. You will eat where the locals eat at small, family-run businesses and try the best local food at places you can’t find on your own. After 3-4 hours, you will finish at local bar to try some rice wine or beer with the locals!

There are a million reasons Chengdu is an international food destination. It’s a UNESCO city of gastronomy. It’s the most popular Chinese cuisine in China. It has the highest per-capita ratio of restaurants in all of China. And at the same time, visitors know very little about food in Chengdu. Travel by tuktuk and encounter spots you could never find on your own for a mix of street food, sit-down restaurants, and family-run joints: Chengdu Street Crepes: This classic local street food comes in one of 4 flavor profiles: sweet, salty, spicy, and strange at a street-stall-turned-shop. Sichuan-style Wontons: Learn why locals call them “Chaoshou,” at a family restaurant where they’re made to order. All the Noodles: Originally served on the street by men who carried the ingredients around on bamboo poles, Dandan noodles are possibly the OG hawker dish. Classic Sichuan Dishes: Sample local delicacies like Mapo Tofu (there’s plenty of not-so-spicy dishes here too).

Amazing experiences with locals

We had an amazing time with Fiona on our food tour in Chengdu! We had so many different dishes to eat and were kept topped up with beer the whole time. We ended the night in a local bar, with plum wine, and our hosts taught us to play Makong with cards. It was an amazing experience! Definitely recommend this tour!

Perfect way to spend an evening in Chengdu

I can’t recommend this tour enough, our guide Jaz was amazing at showing us around some of the best local spots in Chengdu. We stopped at 4 places for food and then went to the cosiest Chinese pub for some plum wine. As we were the only two people on the tour on the night we booked, we were able to ask Jaz lots of questions and get a real feel for the history and culture of Chengdu. She was a brilliant tour guide! We got to try so many different dishes and were well and truly full by the end of the tour - great value for money.

We has a great time on this food tour, by tuk tuk, sampling Chengdu's cuisine. The tour took us into a range of establishments that were very much frequented by locals, which we wouldn't have dreamed of entering on our own. The food (and drink) that we tried was excellent. Our brilliant guide, Fiona, spoke English fluently and was really informative. We finished the evening in a great bar playing cards! All in all this experience is highly recommended.
