We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Remco and our trip into the Marken peninsula. He was very accommodating and eager to give us a special experience. Before we even left Amsterdam he found out we hadn't seen the Skinny Bridge, so he detoured there to let us get out and take pictures and walk on it.
He took us off the main roads so we could see the quiet rural countryside and tiny villages, little canals with their picturesque drawbridges. We even stopped at a dairy farm for a glass of the freshest milk possible! He made sure we tried herring in the beautiful quaint village of Marken, We again took small backroads through wonderful Monnickendam on our way to Volendam. All during the day Remco was constantly asking us what else we would like to see or do, so he could give us the best most customized experience. When we saw how crowded and commercial Volendam was he had no problem getting us out of there and on to Edam instead, which was quiet and delightful.
On the return into Amsterdam he took us to see a brand new mural of Ann Frank on the exterior of a building by a famous artist, something we would never have known about on our own.
All day Remco was giving us information and lore about The Netherlands and its people and how they live. He was a wealth of knowledge, as well as very personable and pleasant. His car was comfortable and very clean. He was perfectly agreeable to picking us up at our hotel in the morning and dropping us off at the dock to get on our riverboat cruise ship at the end of our day.
We had a great day, one of the best in our 3 week trip.
