Overview

Come and join us on a trip to our favourite place on Lake Wanaka, Mou Waho Island.Where you can find an island, on a lake, on an island, on a lake, on an island on the sea! Mou Waho Island is a protected nature reserve and is home to many native New Zealand birds including the curious and flightless Weka. A short walk takes you to the top of the island where you will be exposed to breathtaking panoramic views of the Arethusa pool, Lake Wanaka and its surrounding peaks. Our water taxi leaves Wanaka Marina twice-daily travelling 15km up Lake Wanaka, passing Mou Tapu Island and the steep cliff of fisherman's cove to Mou Waho Island. Your friendly and knowledgeable skipper will inform you of the fascinating geology of the alps and the glaciers that created the lake as you travel along its sparkling waters. Trip includes a 1.5+ hour freedom walk on the island. Note: Christmas Day Mou Waho Island Tour includes a Xmas picnic and will run a bit longer so we can all celebrate together.

    We will meet you on the jetty. From here we will boat 15km up the lake to the scenic reserve, Mou Waho Island. Your skipper will inform you about the history and geology of the lake while cruising the sparkling waters of Lake Wanaka

Fabulous trip

Wow what a fabulous trip. We had a great boat journey to the island during which the host shared interesting information and facts about the area. He also suggested following a second path to the other side of the island, pleased we did this as the views were amazing. The pool at the top is breathtaking although we didn't swim!. The time on the island is perfect. We were also lucky to have a close up encounter with a Weka bird. Would definitely recommend this trip

So much more than we expected! An informative and fun boat ride over to the island, learning about the geology and formations, then a good climb to the top of the island for some fantastics views. We didn't swim in the little lake at the top, but some did. They said it was cold and refreshing! A little too challenging to my eye, about getting and out of the rocky edge. We took a picnic lunch, enjoyed the sunny day and the refreshing boat ride back.

Great experience and great customer service

This was a great trip! We had two hours to explore the island independently, which I preferred instead of going on a guided group hike up to the lake. We had great weather and the views were tremendous from many different locations. It was very windy and the lake was rough, but James our driver was great and gave us some very informative commentary on the way. The customer service for this company was excellent. I got a text message from Krystle the night before that it was going to be choppy and asking if I wanted to reschedule. She also gladly refunded me $20 because I found a coupon code after I had booked my reservation and she sent a screenshot that she had refunded the money to my credit card. Truly amazing customer service.

The Island was amazing! The views were fantastic. Equally amazing was Helen, the skipper of the boat, she was entertaining and informative! She really helped make it a very special outing!

Fabulous boat ride to the island. Then a stiff climb to theArethusa pool at the top. Superb views from the summit. Informative and friendly skipper.
