Overview

Visiting the Rocinha favela, one of Rio's hundreds of "favelas" (the Brazilian term for a slum or shantytown) and the largest in the country, is a local experience that gives you the chance to see Brazil from another point of view. With a resident guide, take a non-intrusive walking tour to learn about daily life in the favela and gain insight into the challenges these communities face. When your tour is finished our driver will be heading back to Copacabana neighborhood crossing the beaches of Leblon and Ipanema, therefore you must inform our tour guide where you are staying so we can make sure you are dropped off as close as possible to your hotel. Duration of our tour including pickup and drop off is around 3 hours.

    This is our first beach and place where we pickup most of our clients at 13:30 (be aware)

  • Ipanema Beach

    Second beach - another great location in Rio and one of the most expensive areas in Brazil. We drive by to pickup clients as well. We drive by the second meeting point at 13:50

    10 minutes

  • Rocinha

    We expect to arrive in Rocinha after all pickups at 14:30 for our walking tour - please wear comfortable shoes for the tour

Informative tour of a Favela

Pick up and transport to and from the Favela tour was smooth. Our tour guide grew up in the neighborhood and had a lot of insights. He spoke English well, and we got to visit one of the residences with a great photo op. Our guide detailed daily life, including the joys and struggles the residents experience. I would say that this tour would be inappropriate for anyone with walking difficulties as there are many narrow and steep stairs. Our group was in their 60's and had no difficulty, but it could be challenging for older people or those with knee and other problems.

Interesting and educating tour

Loved that tour! Martin was excellent tour guide, because he is local and could explain very well all the details and answer our questions. All was as planned and described. We had a small group of about 10 people. We walked throw the favela and Martin told us about everyday life there. Only thing what could be less, was that we visited quite a lot "tourist-oriented" shops and in one that kind of bar was maybe too long stop (about 40min) - instead of that there could be some visit of locals' shop. But summa summarum it was all okay and I can warmly suggest the tour. It was really an experience, that you can never do alone!

Very interesting tour into the history and life of a Favela

Very interesting tour by Alerto and Roy about the background and history of Favelas and how they came about. Visit a superb street artist Wark Rocinhas studio. Saw a lot of examples of his work through out the Favela. Felt extremely safe with Alberto in front and Roy following at the back. They knew many of the people who were very friendly. Thank you all for a fantastic tour of Rocinha
