  • Porta San Sebastiano

    Leave Rome's city center in style, passing through the grand San Sebastiano gate in the 3rd century Aurelian Walls.

  • Appian Way (Via Appia Antica)

    Start discovering the Ancient Appian Way, as it gradually transforms from a nearly anonymous Roman street into a uniquely preserved ancient thoroughfare, today set in the bucolic paradise that is the Appian Way Park.

  • Catacombs of Saint Callixtus

    In the 4-hour tour, a short pause to contemplate the massive burial underground, resting place to half a million souls. Please note: on Wednesdays, this stop is not included in the 4-hour tour. In the 6-hour tour, a 45-minute guided visit of these 2nd-century catacombs, in all their complexity and mystery! Note: On Wednesdays, the 6-hour tour will visit the Catacombs of San Sebastiano (instead of those of San Callixtus).

  • Please note that approximately 40% of the route of this tour takes place in the city. We ride carefully chosen city streets, but some traffic is unavoidable to connect the Ancient Appian Way Park to the Aqueducts Park. In the remaining 60% of the route (riding in the parks) we encounter no traffic.
  • You will cover an area of approximately 17 miles (27km), 60% of which takes place off-road. The difficulty level of this tour is intermediate (difficult with a child seat or child extension mounted on the bicycle).
  • Infants under 1 year are not allowed to participate for safety reasons.
  • Infants aged 1-4 years travelling on a child seat (with load capacity of up to 55 lbs or 25 kg) come on the tour free of charge
  • For children aged 5-8 years a child extension (child streamliner) is provided.
  • Children aged 9 and above can autonomously ride on an appropriately sized E-bike.
  • Minimum of 4 participants applies (total number of participants on tour). There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are 3 or less passengers on the tour. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative for your tour or full refund.
  • On Wednesdays, the route includes a deviation, so the tour may last up to half an hour longer (4.5 instead of 4 hours and 6,5 instead of 6 hours). The tours will be 30 minutes longer also in the period January 15 - February 12, 2025
  • On Easter Sunday (April 20th, 2025), the Catacombs are closed (therefore, the 6-hour tour will not be running)
  • This tour doesn't include any food or drinks; however, the route offers a few possibilities to purchase some food or drinks (which can be consumed during a suitable break).
  • Are the tours safe? The answer is: Absolutely! The tours follow carefully planned routes which have limited access to traffic, and some have no traffic at all, meaning you are able to enjoy your ride around the city in total relaxation and safety and you won't have to worry about traffic
  • We require that all customers wear a helmet on the tour (provided for free).
  • Activity not recommended for travelers not self-confident on a bike.

Another fabulous tour of Via Appia and more with TopBike!

This tour was the second that I have experienced. The first time (November 2023) was fabulous and showed my wife and I a perspective and understanding of Roma which expanded our view of the Appian Way and the environment surrounding the city. The second tour, in January 2025, with my wife and son, visited the Appian Way in a different and interesting way en route to the Catacombs of St. Sebastian. The guide (Francesco) was engaging and informative as he offered history and stories of the places we visited along the way. The visit to the Aqueducts Park was also a highlight, as was the ride through open spaces and trails on such a gorgeous day in Roma.

Everything Topbike provided was top notch. They could not have done anything better. The weather was a little rough, but that is uncontrollable. If you enjoy the outdoors, biking and new experiences this tour is for you.

A must do when visiting Rome. Had a beautiful day with our knowledgeable guide. To fully appreciate the Apian Way and walk where those in history had was really special. Well worth it.

We had an energetic, empathetic and very well organised guide, Ximena, who made sure everyone was safe and our group stayed together. This was a tour of fascinating historical sites where we stopped and listened to Ximena tell us about the site’s context and importance. On the visit to the catacombs of St Callisto we had a guide employed by that site. The catacombs were fascinating and thought provoking. Cycling down part of the Appian Way and through the Aquaduct Park were particular highlights. All the Bike Tour company staff we met were warm, welcoming, professional and multi lingual. The bikes were great; easy to ride with powerful e-assist if needed. Helmets and a bottle of water were provided. Safety was emphasised repeatedly and our guide took excellent care of our group. There was a lunch stop for pizza. We brought a picnic.

Our family of 4 adults did an extended version of this tour which they only offer periodically - we rode the Appian Way to Castel Gandolfo Lake - you can see this one on their website. We do a lot of riding as a family, so we wanted a longer tour route than the usual. This tour was by far the highlight of our trip to Rome. Klaas, our guide, was fun to ride with and had a vast range of knowledge of history of the area. We stopped at many historical sites along the ride and learned so much history of the area. The route that they planned was low traffic and very scenic. The bikes were all in great condition and worked perfectly. I had never ridden an e-bike before and they were a lot of fun and made the tour so much easier. Klaas also took some awesome photos! This tour company was super organized and I definitely recommend them.
