What a great day trip, far exceeding our expectations & well worth the cost. We cautiously booked the trip online through Trip Advisor based on the itinerary & the reviews. I was not quite sure about the value for money (it was Aus$114 each) and wondered if I could do the sights myself a lot cheaper. But I was happy once we got going in the mini van with our superb guide River and 7 other passengers. River was a great guide, she was happy, confident, full of facts & local knowledge.
Our trip to Monkey Mountain, the big pagoda and then the giant white Buddha statue, was great. Then we went to the Marble Mountain & explored the various caves & temples. The caves were massive, cathedral like, with other smaller ones leading off into areas described as descending into hell and others rising up to heaven.
River showed us around and explained much of the history of the place. Afterwards we went for a lovely 3 course lunch at the riverfront Brothers Cafe in Hoi An and then drove out into the countryside to the My Son temple complex. The afternoon tour there was extensive & again River was very informative, ensuring we all had the opportunity to ask questions & understand the different style of structures in the history of Vietnam.
It was a great 10 hour day tour, full of sights, facts & fun.
