Three Queens Statue
Denmark ruled St. Thomas almost continuously from 1666 until 1917. In rebellion against the Dane’s oppressive control, Mary Thomas, Axeline Salomon and Mathilda McBean led an uprising in 1878 that was later called Fireburn because of all the houses and plantations that were torched. These women were considered heroines and given the name the Three Queens. Their statues, which were created by Richard Hallier in 2005, are located in a four-acre, terraced garden in the Kongens Quarter.

Market women played an important role in the square, selling fruits and goods. The bungalow was controlled by these colorful and spirited ladies.
