Overview

As the most popular hiking trip of Great Wall around Beijing, it will show you both untouched and restored sections of the Great Wall at Simatai West and Jinshanling within 3 hours. We will reach the Wall by Kylin Tower at Simatai West, and then walk westward to Jinshanling. We will get off the wall at Shalingkou at Jinshanling, or you can walk another 30 minutes if you feel energetic and then get off the wall at Zhuanduokou . The unrestored wall, the watch towers, the beacon towers snake on the mountain from east to west. You will have chance to meet local farmer friends, try local home-made food and learn local community development. It is the best place for keen photographers along the wall. Regarding fitness it is a medium-level hiking for all ages.

Exit C, Dongzhimen Station, Subway line 2 & 13. Please bring passports in case of police-checking on returning.

There is no toilet along the path on the Wall. There are toilets at the entrance of Simatai West and Jinshanling. Please prepare before hiking and always carry toilet paper by yourself.
Please don’t make any appointment after the trip as the return depending on the traffic between 5-6 pm.
You will be followed by local farmers when starting the hike. The farmers will give you help along the way, as a reward they will sell some souvenirs. If you don’t like this, you have to say NO firmly at the beginning (MAYBE LATER does not work in Chinese culture) or just ignore them and not speak a word with them; otherwise they can be persistent and follow you all the way on the Wall.
Unlimited bottled waters are stored in our car/van today, and you need a day pack to carry them.
We will bring trekking poles in our car/van and please tell your guide if you need one.
Travel insurance is optional and is the sole responsibility of travellers. It is encouraged to have coverage of injury or accident.
As responsible travelers, we “take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprint”.

Amazing Hiking Experience with Luis at Jinshanling and Gubeikou!

Our hiking adventure at Jinshanling and Gubeikou was absolutely unforgettable, thanks to our incredible guide, Luis! From start to finish, he made the experience smooth, enjoyable, and truly special. Luis is not only extremely knowledgeable about the Great Wall and its history, but he is also kind, patient, and always ready to help. He gave us great advice on the best spots for photos and even took fantastic pictures of us, capturing beautiful memories along the way. What we appreciated the most was that we never felt rushed—Luis took his time, allowing us to fully soak in the breathtaking views and enjoy every moment at our own pace. Pick up at the hotel and nice car from Beijing city center to the Great Wall and back in the evening, was very convenient ! The lunch that was included in our tour was also delicious. We highly recommend this hike!

Once in a lifetime experience

Once in a lifetime experience hiking the Great Wall with a great group of people. This section is more remote and authentic with almost no other tourists. Some sections were quite challenging with lots of steps, but it was worth it. Celebrated the end of the hike with a delicious lunch. Highly recommend!

Great tour on the Great Wall with very few tourists on this part of the tour. Nice group and cool guide. Almost 10km hike up-and-down - so be a bit trained.

Breathtaking views! Must do!

Definitely worth going. There were several points along the Great Wall we had the wall just our group was present. It’s gruelling hike but the views were spectacular. It’s completely breathtaking and lunch was good. You certainly need some decent fitness to ascend and descend. Steps were steep and it takes 1000 steps to get to the first tower of the Great Wall. Please take the walking poles provided!

Great Wall is a must see

It was foggy when we left Beijing, but the sky cleared in the mountains and we had a great 3h hike. That Sunday mid November only very few tourists have been there.
