Set off on a full day trip from Hobart and discover Port Arthur Historic Site, Tasman National Park and the Isle of the Dead! Our Grand Port Arthur Tour is suitable for the whole family, with plenty of time to explore at your own pace. Includes a relaxing, scenic cruise on Carnarvon Bay, where you'll be entertained and informed with the 1-hour guided walking tour on the Isle of the Dead. Formerly a convict site this now UNESCO world heritage listed site is bursting with history and today boasts a landscape of natural beauty, scenic ruins and restored buildings. Our driver/guide will be on hand throughout the day to provide additional information about this fascinating site and to ensure your time is well spent. Lunch and refreshments can be purchased on site or you are welcome to bring your own. Join the optional free Remarkable Caves tour and enjoy a visit on our return to Hobart at the Chocolate Foundry.

    Travel across the Tasman Bridge into the Coal River Valley then onto the historic town of Richmond. Enjoy a short photo stop at the famous convict built Richmond Bridge.

Satisfying trip to Port Arthur

It is a huge site so you have to be able to walk everywhere. I have mobility issues but luckily small shuttle buses will take you to different parts of the site. I found the time there allowed me to enjoy the boat cruise and tour of Dead Island. Very informative guide made this well worthwhile. I explored the main prison are but missed having a guide. The courts and guard house were also nearby. I then needed a break so got shuttle to the New Gaol and Asylum where there is a cafe. Both these sites are very informative and reflect changing ideas about incarceration. The other civilian houses are very pretty now. I also visited the Memorial area. More sombre and reflective feel behind the hedge. I felt I needed a second day to really learn about the site but focusing on key parts made it a very satisfying experience for me. The stops and commentary along the way were excellent and I learned a lot about Tasmania’s past and present.

Phil, our tour guide, gave us the history of Port Arthur on the ride from Hobart to Port Arthur. He oriented us inside the grounds and left us to explore before we boarded the Harbour tour. David gave us a humorous explanation of a few significant people buried on the Isle of the Dead. It lightenedd the mood.

We done 2 tours with Grays Port Arthur and Hobart, both Allan and Colin were great operators both very knowledgeable and the buses clean, nothing was a problem on either tour. Highly recommend

Great trip. Included some side stops too. Our driver Rod was an excellent guide in the bus. You do a self guided walk at Port Arthur.
