Overview

We will pick you up from the port in Djúpivogur. Then, we will head to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. Floating on the lagoon are enormous icebergs, moving with the waves towards the river mouth. The white and blue icebergs give off a calming crackling sound as they float around in the lagoon. You will have plenty of time to take in the views from shore. Add some sparkles to your day at the Diamond Black Sand Beach. Explore some secret glaciers in the Vatnajökull National Park where the largest glacier in Europe lies. As the day comes to an end, we will drop you off at the port in Djúpivogur.

Glacier Lagoon

Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. Floating on the lagoon are enormous icebergs, moving with the waves towards the river mouth. The white and blue icebergs give off a calming crackling sound as they float around in the lagoon.

Diamond Beach, which is just beside Jökulsárlón, is the best way to bring to a close this awesome and mesmerising day. Littered with sparking ice pieces, both big and small, on an endless stretch of black sand beach.

You will hop onto a monster truck which will bring you to the foot of the largest glacier in Europe for your glacier hiking (or Blue Ice Cave Exploration).

Iceland Lives Up to the Hype

This experience was an A+ - comfortable car, beautiful terrain, and an EXCELLENT guide. Einar was our guide and he was incredible - willing to share personal stories and tons of interesting facts about the terrain and how and why it has changed over the years. He even took us to some locals-only spots, where we felt as though we were way off of the beaten path, enjoying secluded waterfalls and private views. We also visited the "big" sites that were crowded with tourists but Einar made them more interesting and fun by telling is how they have had to change to accommodate the millions of tourists who are visiting Iceland. This tour exceeded our expectations in every way!

Glacier Lagoon Day Trip

Fantastic trip down the coast with our guide Einar. His knowledge of the history and dry sense of humor were quite enjoyable. He was very flexible and took us to several out of the way spots; once for coffee and another short hike to a waterfall. My wife recently had a knee replacement and he was very considerate of her hiking ability. Glacier lagoon, of course, was amazing ! Marina Travel did a great job communicating in advance of the tour and everything went very smooth.

Did it as part of a shore excursion on a recent NCL cruise. A short time in port but our guide made the trip work. The tour was excellent. We saw everything we wanted to see and didn't really feel rushed at all. Had an excellent time from the sights to learning about the area,
