Karla Caves The Karla Caves or Karle Caves or Karla Cells are a complex of ancient Indian Buddhist rock-cut cave shrines located in Karli near Lonavala, Maharashtra. The shrines were developed over the period – from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD. Bhaja Caves The caves are 400 feet above the village of Bhaja. The inscriptions and the cave temple are protected as a National Monument, by the Archaeological Survey of India per Notification No. 2407-A. It belongs to the Hinayana Buddhism sect in Maharashtra.

Such an interesting day. First was the Temple and adjoining ancient cave complex carved by hand. The climb up was steep but covered from the sun with vendors selling all manner of things! Next were the view points which were amazing. Don’t forget to buy some Chikki which is delicious, from the nearby town. We got loads to bring home with us.

Me & my mom enjoyed the trip to Lonavala caves. Great mountain view. It is away from the city's busy noisey environment. Kamlesh is a great guide & company. We admire our driver who has a lot of patience driving on the busy roads of Mumbai. Kamlesh took us to a great restaurant for lunch. Food was delicious.

Lonavala is a beautiful town. It took about 2 ~ 2.5 hours to get there and is totally worthwhile. Mr. Hardik was very knowledgeable and professional. The caves are indeed very special in its own way especially the sculptures on the pillars. The surrounding areas are serene and beautiful. The tour ends at Lion point with spectacular views. It is a trip i’ll never forget.
