I took a day trip to Mysore from Bangalore, and it was an excellent way to explore the city’s rich history and culture in a short amount of time. The journey itself was comfortable, with a scenic drive through Karnataka’s countryside. My driver Yogesh was knowledgeable and professional.
The highlight of the tour was Mysore Palace, absolutely stunning architecture. The interiors were breathtaking, with intricate carvings, stained glass, and opulent chandeliers. Seeing the palace lit up in the evening would have been amazing, but even during the day, it was impressive.
Another fascinating stop was Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace in Srirangapatna. The palace, though smaller than Mysore Palace, was beautifully designed with intricate teakwood carvings, elegant arches, and vibrant frescoes depicting battles and court life. It provided a glimpse into the life of Tipu Sultan, the “Tiger of Mysore,”
We also visited St. Philomena’s Cathedral, a striking neo-Gothic church that felt almost out of place in South India but was a cool architectural surprise.
For lunch, we had a traditional South Indian meal served on a banana leaf, which was a great way to experience the local flavors. Afterward, we stopped by Devaraja Market, a bustling spot full of vibrant colors, and fresh produce.
Overall, this Mysore day trip was well-paced and packed with history, architecture, and culture. If you’re in Bangalore and have a day to spare, it’s absolutely worth the visit.
