Overview

You’ll ascend to the island’s third-highest mountain, Pico de Arieiro, which affords stunning island views. The next stop is Ribeiro Frio, the starting point of a famous levada (irrigation channel) walk, where you’ll marvel at trout pools and learn about the prehistoric forest that covers Madeira. Following lunch in the colorful town of Santana, you’ll visit more incredible lookout points such as Ponta de São Lourenço, and stop off at Machico before drop-off at your Funchal accommodation.

    The first stop is at Terreiro da Luta, a beautiful viewpoint a few kilometres from Funchal. 

    20 minutes

  • Pico do Arieiro

    Pico do Arieiro, at an altitude of 1818 metres it is the third highest peak on the island and affords breathtaking views.

    30 minutes

  • Ribeiro Frio

    Ribeiro Frio, where you can see its interesting trout farm. This area still has much of its original vegetation.

    20 minutes

  • Santana

    Santana is characterised by its small thatched triangular houses. This is where we'll make our main stop for lunch.

    1 hour 30 minutes

  • Ponta de Sao Lourenco

    Situated in the eastern part of the island, this is the place where a fantastic combination of rocks, sea and nature combine.

    20 minutes

  • Machico

    The last town to be visited is Machico, a viewpoint where you can watch the bay and golden sandy beach.

Excellent full day tour of the East side of Madeira, we previously took the West side tour with Lido Tours last year and were equally impressed with both. Good way to see the island and it's most spectacular views from various viewpoints, with friendly and very knowledgeable tour guide Marco.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use as part of a cruise holiday. Very rarely throughout the day did we run into tours run by the cruise companies. Drivers are very professional and knowledgeable. We left port at 9 and got back at 4, so a full day, unlike the cruise offerings of 4 hours max. The vehicles are smaller in size which helps when accessing viewpoints. At 38 Euros it is outstanding value. Whilst lunch is not included the driver suggested a local restaurant, but there was no pressure to use it and there others close by. Book directly through the website where you can pay immediately or buy now pay later. You can cancel 24 hours in advance if you need to, especially if the cruise line cancel the port. If you pay for it later take cash with you to pay the driver. We didn't have the whole lot in cash so the office sent a link by sms and paid through that. Bottom line just go for it, we used them for the west coast as well. Oh make sure you pack a waterproof as Maderia can have 4 seasons in a day. Enjoy
