Overview

This guided private tour of Mysore from Bangalore helps you relive the golden age from 15-18th centuries when Mysore was one of the world's most advanced and prosperous Kingdoms. It is hosted by a company that is approved by the ministry of Tourism. Visit the iconic Mysore Palace, a charming old bazaar, Asia's second largest Church of St Philomena, World heritage site of Somnathpura temple or Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan with magnificent paintings & the notorious Bailey’s dungeons, . Last but not the least, a traditional Mysore lunch makes this tour a sensorial experience to remember for the ages! This tour is organised by Five Senses Tours, a private limited company recognised by the Ministry of Tourism and a member of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO). The tour has been designed to support local livelihoods by way of employment of local guides, and supporting local businesses in line with the mission of the company to ensure travel dollars stay where they are spent.

Itinerary

  • Dariya Daulat Palace - Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace

    We reach the historical town of Sri Rangapatnam which was the capital of Tipu Sultan, the Tiger of Mysore, in the 18th century. We will trace his life from the day he fought a tiger and killed it with a dagger, his brave battles with the British, his administrative and economic reforms and his pioneering usage of rockets in warfare. He is credited with being a pioneer in using rockets for warfare and the British later improvised on his technology during the World War I. We visit Dariya Daulat Bagh, the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan. It is built in Indo-Sarcenic style and has a few magnificent murals depicting the war of Tipu with the British. The most famous exhibit here is the famous painting “Storming of Srirangapatna” by Sir Robert Ker Porter. The theme of the painting is the final fall of Srirangapatna on 4th May 1799 when the British defeat Tipu’s forces.

  • Captain Bailey's Dungeon

    Colonel Bailey Dungeon is the famous dungeon where Tipu imprisoned several British Officers during the war. Tales about this notorious place will be told during the tour!

  • Mysuru Palace

    We visit the grand Mysore Palace and spend the next couple of hours in this wonder built in Indo-Saracenic style with a blend of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic styles of architecture. The Palace is a three-storied stone structure, with marble domes and a 145 ft five-storied tower. The guided tour will take you through the Public Hall, Private Hall, Dolls Pavilion and the Royal Wedding Hall.

    Next in our  tour to Mysore, we visit Devraja market, the charming old bazaar of Mysore. Its a sensorial delight made up of flowers, vegetables, fruits, jaggery, onions and potatoes, puffed rice and coconuts!

  • St. Philomena's Church

    We visit St Philomena church. Built in 1840, earlier it used to be called as the St. Joseph Chavez, which was later changed to its present name. Initially a small church, it gained its present form in 1933 during the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. In 1843, Mysore King Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar built the church so as to cater to the needs of the European people who were residing in Mysore then. Today, it is the second largest church in Asia.

  • Chennakeshava Temple

    Guests have a choice in this tour to choose either Srirangapatna (Dariya daulat Bagh & Bailey Dungeon) or Somnathpura. They can update their choice during the booking under remarks. Somnathpur is famous for the magnificent Chennakesava temple. It has been declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. This temple was built in 1268 by Somanatha, a general of King Narasimha III. We will explore the three shrines and three wonderfully carved peaks with a common Mandapa. Time will be spent appreciating the 16 different ceilings, each depicting a different stage of a blooming banana flower, the central wall space adorned with images of deities with jewellery, bangles, crowns and anklets.

Wonderful experience

Manjunath my driver/ guide was very punctual and was very hospitable. He was able to share the culture and landmarks as we were driving through. Definitely recommend .

Bangalore to Mysore day guided tour.

I had great experience in Mysure full day visit. We went for Chennakeshava Temple, small silk market on a side of the road, tradicional vegetarian lunch restaurant, Mysure Palace, Mysure flower & vegs market. Mohad was very kind and always explaining me everithing in very fluent english. We have great discussion on all kind of topics and that was the most valuable from the trip. Only downside was the english from the temple and palace guides.

He taught me a ton about the culture and history, and was super accommodating when adjusting plans to tailor to what I was interested in. I felt comfortable and safe the whole trip.
