We were on a Royal Caribbean cruise that made a stop in Cozumel, and after seeing the reviews of the excursions offered by the cruise ship, I decided to find something else - and reviews led me to the Punta Sur Eco Beach Park Electric Bike Tour! The meeting point was a short less than 10 minute walk from the port, easily found. We met Gris - our wonderful tour guide for the excursion. There were only two of us on this tour, so we drove with Gris in an air conditioned pickup truck to the park - the bikes were in the back. Gris supplied us with water and sunblock - I had forgotten to put it on my face back at the ship (!) - and off we went! 30 minutes later, we were at the park.
After a quick tutorial on the electric bike, we were off to tour around the park. We stopped at a small Mayan ruin, an area where crocodiles live (and a climb up a treehouse of sorts), a lighthouse and then the beach, where we had lunch and then went in the water. Not going to lie - Cozumel is HOT - but the breeze from the bike was pleasant, and the water at the beach was just heavenly. We could have snorkeled, but neither of us felt like it. Gris was lovely and personable, and a wonderful guide. The food was delicious, but know if you buy an alcoholic beverage, you'll have to pay extra. Also, if they offer you guacamole, that is also extra, even though on the "what's included" section of the tour information it says a "guacamole entree" is included. It's not.
A few folks did come to the table to try and get us to buy some of the trinkets they were selling, but they always asked Gris's permission first and when we declined, they left without complaint.
A note - bring towels from the cruise ship...I forgot to bring some, and they do not provide any (it was in the directions for the excursion, I just forgot). Also, we got fairly dirty from the water-filled potholes on the dirt road (it had just rained) so don't wear anything white or new. The road you drive on with the ebike is riddled with potholes so the ride was bumpy at times, but super fun. I had never ridden on an ebike and am pretty risk averse and I had a blast.
I highly recommend this tour if you want a combination of something active and something relaxing. We were a small group (2 plus the guide) but Gris told us that they keep the tours small, with no more than 15 in a group.
Bathrooms - there is a bathroom at the meeting spot, which Gris suggested we use before we left. There is also a bathroom at the lighthouse (maybe an hour into the tour), and again at the beach club/restaurant. So if you have an active bladder and worry about proximity to a bathroom, there is really no need to be concerned!
