A Great Tour!
Published on Feb, 2025
This is an excellent tour! Our guide, Stefan, walked us around the city for 2 hours and gave us a really great view into the history of the city and the culture of the Icelandic people. We learned a lot, laughed a lot, and even got to enjoy a special treat at the end of the tour. Highly recommend this company and this tour to anyone looking for a good introduction; plus Stefan gave great recommendations about how to spend the rest of our time in the city.
Fascinating Cautionary Tales with Viking Stefan !!
Published on Feb, 2025
We joined a walking tour with a Viking with me hoping for an insight into Icelandic life and the Mrs hoping for tall and well proportioned Scandinavian eye candy.
We reported on time and met Stefan who was suitably Viking-esque with beard and a twinkle in his eye. There was another couple on our tour who had two young children in tow.
Off we set around the streets of Reykjavik. I won’t explain all the sites but suffice to say it’s a lovely city to explore and without a shadow of a doubt you’ll see and hear stuff that you wouldn’t come across on your own.
Stefan warmed to his audience and, with the two little ones present, he regaled his audience with a wide repertoire of fairly gruesome Icelandic children’s tales. They don’t have Father Christmas but rather Yule Lads and a child eating cat that does away with naughty children. Those not eaten by kitty are collected up in a sack and made into soup by the Yule Tide Lad’s fearsome mother. Our compatriots’ kids would need heavy duty counselling after this tour!
The two hours passed really quickly. Stefan was enthusiastic, engaging and very proud of his country. He was great at signposting stuff we should see during our stay and the tour orientated us well to Reykjavik. After saying goodbye to Stefan we retraced our steps to purchase a couple of Icelandic hotdogs from the street stall where President Bill Clinton had tried this Icelandic delicacy … see, you don’t find that in Lonely Planet !!
