Overview

Get ready for an unforgettable experience with our road trip from Liberia, where you'll enjoy the breathtaking mountain range, nature, and unique scenery of Guanacaste! After a 25 km drive through stunning landscapes, you'll arrive at the Santa Maria Sector, part of Rincón de la Vieja National Park. We'll start our tour by delving into the culture and history at the Casona of the old Santa Maria Hacienda. Here, we'll begin a hike focused on wildlife observation and learning about the nature and forest around us. At the end of the trail, you'll find the magical blue natural pools filled with thermal mineral water, where you can immerse yourself, disconnect and relax. On the way back, we'll visit the Morpho Waterfall so you can rest your feet and dip into fresh water or simply enjoy the peaceful, loving forest and river surroundings. This is a medium-scale hike, approximately 6 km round trip, with 80% flat terrain throughout the trail, making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Have done this tour with Costa Rica Excursions Travel a couple of times and it only gets better each time. The hike is moderate-easy and with the rainy season the hike got even more interesting. This place is must see!

This was one of those adventures that positively and significantly impacts your visit, understanding of place, perspective, and life. If you are seeking a physically and mentally immersive, intensive, eye-opening, rewarding and distinctive experience - go for this one, and come prepared. You begin at the National Park hiking relatively challenging jungle terrain. An out-and-back hike with a breath-taking natural Hot springs as your destination, one would not want to attempt navigating this journey without the excellent & knowledgable guide to not miss any animals and interesting information about flora and Guanacaste. John led our small group of 3 - his familiarity with and reverence for the land was extra-special. Rarely have I learned so much in a few hours - from the micro to the macro - he stopped periodically to invite observation and shared a bounty of insight while still leaving plenty of quiet time to just move through the forest. A delightful vibe of mutual respect throughout - enriching and unforgettable.
