Experiencing the Salt Cathedral with Nataly was the highlight of our 2.5 days in Bogata. It’s MUST DO for sure - especially if you like to tour cathedrals. Regardless of your religion, it’s a memorable on to do. Also, the authentic meal that follows was delicious. Nataly is a gem, and we would strongly recommend asking for her.

We chose a tour to the Salt Cathedral in Bogota. Leslie was our guide. She was perfect. The pace of the tour was tailored to out needs.. Not too fast or not too slow. She answered questions appropriately and was extremely knowledgeable. After the tour, we went to Zipaquirá for lunch. It was a very authentic Colombian restaurant with live music. A pleasant surprise and the food was fantastic. I can’t say enough about how great the tour was and how our guide Leslie took care of us and gave us such a great experience. It was the absolute highlight of Bogota. If you are looking for a guide in Bogota, please request Leslie from Gran Colombia Tours. she made the tour of the Salt Cathedral even better.

With the 1 1/2 ride to the cathedral we didn’t know what to expect. Our guide Nataly was so enthusiastic. We told her our previous guide knew nothing about our previous tour. She spent the hour doing what he should have done. She is so knowledgeable about the history, culture and people of Columbia. The salt cathedral is an experience that is hard to describe. One descends at least 800’ into the bowels of the salt mountain. There is no fear as there is so much to see and learn. The most important part of the walk is the stations of the cross. They are artistically done and represents the pain and suffering that Jesus endured. One can almost feel the pain on the way to Golgotha. The crosses decend as he falls. At the end there are images of Jesus speaking his last words while in the cross. The cross itself changes colors and has different illumination. This happens only during Easter week. How fortunate we were to share this, not only with our family, but with our guide and friend, Nataly.
